Corey Ross has been in the financial planning and analysis business for over 20 years. Corey began his career working for Ameriprise Financial and WaMu Investments (investment arm of Washington Mutual Bank). Then, almost seven years ago, Corey joined another advisor’s practice. After three years of consultation and collaboration with his colleague, Corey took a leap of faith and started his own financial planning business. It has turned out to be one of the best decisions he's ever made!
Corey believes understanding what personality style an advisor has benefits the work and relationship of an advisor and his clients. Corey uses the DISC Index to determine what personality trait a person has; D stands for Decisive, I = Interactive, S = Stability, C = Cautious. Corey’s predominant style is Cautious. He takes the time and care you need to help you understand your options and make thoughtful decisions.
Before his career in financial planning, Corey served four years in the United States Navy. In 1990, during his service, Corey and his brother in arms were sent to the Persian Gulf to support the effort in Dessert Shield and Desert Storm (the first Persian Gulf War). This experience gave him a sense of pride, which explains his unwavering support of veterans and those currently serving.
At the time of Corey's deployment, the University of Washington Huskies (UW) football team had their championship season. Every day, Corey read the sports section of the newspaper (this was before the internet and Facebook) and he watched the UW football team move up in the top 25 rankings every week, which provided the connection to home that he needed. He grew up a Washington State University Cougar (WSU) fan and still is, but he developed a connection with UW that would never be broken.
After Corey’s commitment to the military, he applied to the University of Washington (UW) and was granted admittance to the School of Business. As a student of business, Corey started an investment club called The Dow Dawgs Investment Club. In two short years, the investment club members traveled to New York and toured the floor of the New York Stock Exchange. The club also traveled to San Francisco to visit the financial district. Corey developed a passion for investing that has only grown since his time at UW.
Corey is passionate about educating our youth. He started a nonprofit called The Extra Mile Academy (TEMA). TEMA was developed to empower high school students to understand and make decisions related to financial literacy (budgeting, investing, etc.) to better their future. To learn more about Corey’s passion project, you can go to the TEMA website, www.theextramileacademy.org. TEMA will be a big part of Corey’s Living and Giving like no one else!
